Group thinking stops independent decisions

In Editorial Comments on December 7, 2010 at 1:58 pm

As we have seen and heard in the past few weeks and months the network newscasts profess to have accurate references regarding the state of our economy.

We are feed data regarding the 400 thousand unemployed people who are receiving unemployment benefits. That data is corrupt because in my opinion the real data isn’t available. There is most likely another 500 thousand who don’t qualify for unemployment benefits because they worked at a job part-time and  they have expired their total amount of money available to them in benefits. Then there is the people that have been unemployed for longer than 1 year that have given up and live with relatives or a group living environment sharing the food and shelter. Then we have the part of the population who are traveling to find work in every state of the US. Migrating to a location advertised to be accepting applications for factory work or field work. Only to discover upon arrival the position isn’t filled because applications are still in the process of being accepted.

Now we have the invisible people who are homeless. Homeless is a word that is now regarded as a excuse to not work or pay taxes. To live while sponging off of public services. Older veterans and other older men and women who have given up trying to fit into the example of group thought that success is measured by how many bills you have and your credit rating. Young single parents with children roaming the outskirts of urban areas hoping for a place to sleep without fear of attack by roaming predators, human or animal.  Hundreds of thousands of young adults who have graduated from high school or college racing about the area they live in to find work that isn’t available.

So we listen that the percentage of unemployed is considered a single digit rate. This rate is variable so the definition of recession is applied. So if the percentage of unemployment is a double digit rate over a fixed period of time without decreasing it’s a depression. This is considered in my opinion group thinking. a large portion of the so called persons in the position to disperse news to the public consistently says the country is in a recession. The unemployed people of the country know its a depression but because of media states its not we are confused to the point of  believing what the group says even thou they know better.  Conforming to the group idea that nothing is abnormal about the current economy. That does put food on the plate.

How many people need to be counted as unemployed before the nation admits to the public that we are in a depression and have to work together as a group to shelter and feed each other? As a nation of  free and independent thinkers we have power to make changes to our life styles to include others in our lives. Some believe , why bother to help others who don’t want to help themselves? That thought possibly is because there could be a group thought that tells us that helping is considered a weakness of the human to give to others without expecting something in return.

Well enough about that! I’ll express my thoughts on another subject as it pops into my head in a few days
